The 2014 South Africa meeting took place in Stellenbosch, courtesy of Logista Inc.
In addition to colleagues from the host office, South Africa was represented by delegates from Logista, Pretoria, as well as from Boake, BKR member firm in Johannesburg.
From outside South Africa, it was a delight to be accompanied by our newly recruited firm from Nigeria, Adebola Sobanjo, as well as delegates from BKR member firm Auditec-Foirier Consulting (Cameroon) and International Proximity (Mauritius).
In the fabulous setting of a local wine farm, surrounded by mountains and wildlife – springboks and zebra, the meeting began.
Proceedings commenced with an introduction from host and current EMEA chair, Lourens Oosthuizen, who in turn introduced the region’s executive director, Stephen Hamlet (London). Stephen provided a useful update on recent BKR activity, paying particular attention to events in the EMEA region and the latest BKR initiatives.
The first working session discussed “Assertiveness at work for Managers” and involved interaction within certain teams.
This took the meeting into coffee break which was followed by an interesting presentation by Vincent Ngankam (Cameroon) on Corporate Tax in Cameroon, a refreshing introduction by Adebola Olubanjo (Nigeria) and a beneficial update by Ashish Jagarnath (Mauritius).
The rest of the day included sessions on Retirement reform legislation, Sports administration and management, and Labour relations; all presented very well and resulting in good interaction amongst delegates.
That evening, a most pleasurable dinner was had at a local Stellenbosch restaurant where delegates had the chance for a more informal catch-up, and to partake in the many wines of the area amongst other local delicacies (although I believe Tequila is actually from Mexico!)
The sun was shining once again for the next day which included a fascinating presentation on Energy solutions and how to make financial sense of the energy landscape, plus a session on Information technology trends, and finishing with a most appropriate look at the Wine industry of South Africa, including an obligatory wine tasting!
We thank again our hosts, Logista, and look forward to next year’s event.
