BKR London member Blick Rothenberg held a webinar on Planning for private clients on 24th May 2018. If you want to listen to the webinar it is available at Planning for Private Clients Recording (you will need to log in).
The details of the content discussed were:
With the start of the new tax year, now is the time for clients to start their planning to ensure that they maximise all of the available reliefs and exemptions and that they optimise their position for the year ahead, generating potentially significant savings now and over the long-term.
Planning ahead can take various forms, such as utilising basic annual allowances, gifting and establishing bespoke structures which can provide tax efficiency but also address wider individual and family issues.
However, planning for private clients has to be managed appropriately, and in recent years, there has been a growing focus on the personal tax affairs of high-net-worth individuals. Within this new context, it is important to overlay any planning with an appropriate strategy with tax risk, personal tax compliance and managing the relationship with HM Revenue & Customs (“HMRC”).
In this webinar, private client partner, Nimesh Shah and director,Jessica McLellan , looked at planning for private clients for the year ahead, and how such planning can be managed from a tax risk perspective in the current climate. Nimesh and Jessica covered the following:
- What’s new for the 2018/19 tax year?
- The start of the new tax year is the best time to plan for the year ahead
- HMRC’s current approach to high-net-worth individuals and their tax compliance
- How can proactive discussions mitigate the future risk of tax enquiries and disputes with HMRC?
