The Britain, Ireland (Northern and the Republic) and Guernsey group met once again at the offices of Blick Rothenberg in London, on Friday 9 March.
All member firms of this group were in attendance, and hence comprised of delegates from Blick Rothenberg (London), Cassons (Manchester), Harbinson Mulholland (Belfast), Lince Salisbury (Guernsey), and Ormsby & Rhodes (Dublin).
Additionally, the group was visited by three delegates of a guest firm from Newcastle, who is looking to join an international group. The Newcastle firm were an asset to the meeting and contributed a lot of experience to the discussions.
Commencing the meeting, Stephen Hamlet welcomed all those present, thanking Bob Rothenberg (London) for once again being kind enough to host the meeting at his offices.
Our guests from Newcastle introduced themselves and presented a brief overview of their very impressive and progressive firm.
Melissa Thomas (London) then treated the group to her experience with International Business, by way of a presentation on Working with overseas companies looking to set up a presence in the UK.
Darren McDowell (Belfast) commenced a discussion on Servicing clients in the High-tech/knowledge sector, including fees for start-ups, Venture Capitalist involvement and governance issues.
The group moved onto a discussion of Current Tax Issues, kindly led by Toby Ryland (London). Toby initiated discussions on Research & Development tax reliefs, Limited Liability Partnerships and other Tax planning matters.
The morning was completed with a session on the Use of Social Media in the business environment, which clearly revealed some generation gaps within the group, but more so the fact that everybody still had much to learn as to its effectiveness and/or appropriateness.
After a fabulous lunch buffet, the afternoon continued in the traditional way, with each member firm presenting a review of the past 12 months, resulting in further open discussions.
The day was again received very well by all who attended, having enjoyed the opportunity to discuss development issues within their respective firms, share common interests, latest service offerings, initiatives and experiences in recent practice matters.
Thanks again to Blick Rothenberg for their hospitality and for the continuous refreshment throughout the day.
