This year’s EMEA regional Tax and Audit meetings were held in Amsterdam on Monday 26 November.

Record numbers in attendance were achieved, with 60 delegates across both meetings, from 27 member firms, coming from 18 different countries.

The presentations can be found in PDF format on the Members Section of the EMEA website:

The Audit meeting commenced with a welcome from Geert Van Peteghem (Zele), as acting Standards committee chair, followed by an IFRS overview by Renzo Peduzzi (Zurich). After the morning break, Pascal Bejon (Paris) treated delegates to one and a half hours of updates on ISA 610 and ISA 315. The afternoon sessions were led by Ulrich Viefers (Düsseldorf) along with Geert Van Peteghem, on Evaluating and Improving Internal Control in Organisations, finishing with a discussion on Professional Scepticism.

Delegates were welcomed to the Tax meeting by Petra Owen (Hamburg), where the sessions commenced with mini presentations of Legislation on Holding Companies in various jurisdictions. Kindly presented by Peter Janssen (Roermond) and Coen Hissink (Amstelveen) for the Netherlands, Max Galowich (Luxembourg) for Luxembourg, Ivan Fučík (Prague) for the Czech Republic, and Niall O’Connor (Dublin) for Ireland. Allowing for a slight shift in the agenda, Ivan Fučík presented his interesting comparison survey on Directors’ Remuneration prior to lunch. The afternoon commenced with a most useful discussion on EU VAT (“Harmonisation: Still a long way to go”), presented by Alan Pearce (London), followed by EU/Dutch VAT & Customs for non-EU companies, as presented by Rob Zevenbergen (Ridderkerk) and our guest speaker, Hans Maessen (from Maco Customs Service), treating delegates to his more than 25 years of experience in the customs industry. The Tax day finished with two sessions on Permanent Establishments and new developments in Italy and in Germany, presented by Marco Borioli & Giorgio Colombo (Milan) and Peter Walter & Marco Schmedt (Düsseldorf), respectively.

We thank all those who participated in what were both very positively received and interesting meetings, and especially those who presented and contributed their time and efforts in making the meetings a great success.

We look forward to next year’s event.
