On Monday 29 November, BKR held two separate meetings in London at the Sheraton Skyline Hotel, one for Tax and one for Audit.
I am delighted to say that, not only did we manage to arrange them for just moments before the snowy weather became too bad and disruptive, we had a most successful day.
With 48 delegates across both meetings, from 25 member firms, coming from 16 different countries, and with only one casualty due to the adverse weather conditions, I have received excellent feedback in respect of both Tax and Audit sessions.
For those of you who were unable to attend, please find the Powerpoint slides to the presentations on the EMEA website, at:
The new format of the Audit meeting was received particularly well, encouraging more interactive discussion and participation. Special thanks must go to Andrew Sanford and John Newman, partners at Blick Rothenberg, for their significant contribution to this meeting. After the morning sessions on Clarified ISAs and Training of Audit staff, the afternoon continued to involve discussion on accounting and auditing regimes in different countries, receiving contributions from France (Pascal Bejon – SFC Paris, Nathalie Lutz and Anne Mouhssine – Exponens), Portugal (Paulo Vieira – Mariquito, Correia & Associados), Germany (Ulrich Viefers – WWS), and the United Kingdom (Andrew Sanford – Blick Rothenberg), with the meeting finishing with debate around a case study.
The BKR tax delegates were especially fortunate to benefit from the invaluable knowledge and experience of a partner from a highly reputable law firm, speaking on the latest ECJ cases, in addition to the VAT update provided by Alan Pearce (Blick Rothenberg) and Petra Owen (Hansa Partner). The afternoon continued with interactive discussions around the measures used against tax haven abuse. We also thank Marco Borioli (Borioli & Colombo Associati) for completing the meeting with his presentation on Permanent Establishment.
BKR welcomes offers from other colleagues at member firms for assistance with presenting and chairing topics at future meetings.
